I went to PV with my Mom for Xmas, or in my goofy spanish, "Yo vamous a Puerto Vallarta a Navidad con yo mama"
Puerto Vallarta is one of my favorite seaside places in Mexico that is easy to get to. Most of the other big resort towns in Mexico have absolutely no cham. PV is somewhat different. South of the Rio Cuale is the El Centro area, which is older and not all Sheratonated. We saw this changing right as we were there though -- The second day at our hotel, they knocked on our room door and insisted upon installing a new 19" color TV. We had no interest in it, but they insisted. And to top it off, they tried to raise the rate on the room by 15 pesos!
So here's some pics from the trip. Apologies that they aren't thumbnailed, but I'm too lazy and haven't upgraded to FrontPage 98 which has a groovy Auto-Thumbnail feature.

the streets of PV.

PV isn't that far from Seattle.

We took a boat ride to Yelapa -- a small village about 45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta.

Yelapa.

We stayed at Casa Chalata -- a very rustic place (no walls, thatched roofs)

and a big flight of stairs to get to.

But a really nice view.

We hiked up to a waterfall.

Owsley's ghost. (Or a future Travelodge)

Mom getting me back for all the hell I gave her when she tried to take pictures of me when I was young.

Another place to stay in Yelapa -- fancier (they have a generator and walls!) I stayed here the first time I came to Yelapa.

A friendly parrot with bad breath at Yelapa.

Back in PV, I visit my old friend Chona the monkey.

I love monkeys.

a lot.
